Retreatment Options for Adult Patients

Your North Haven orthodontist

Dr. Shamik Desai was born in Bryn Mawr, PA, and soon after moved to Farmington, CT with his family. Dr. Desai attended Villanova University, which is outside of Philadelphia, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 2008. After that, Dr. Desai spent four years at Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he earned his dental degree in 2012. Finally, Dr. Desai continued his education at Columbia University in Manhattan where Dr. Desai completed a three-year orthodontic residency program in 2015.

New Haven Braces

Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. We attach metal or ceramic brackets to your teeth in positions that will help your teeth move how they need to. We then connect them with wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics. These brackets, wires, and bands work together to apply the gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the desired positions through regular adjustment appointment with Dr. Desai.

New Haven braces are an excellent choice for correcting tooth issues from simple to complex. Braces can sometimes close gaps and align teeth faster than other options might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced. In addition, braces don't require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, making braces a cost-effective orthodontic option for patients on a budget.

New Haven Clear Aligners

Instead of using brackets and bands, our New Haven Clear Aligner system uses clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth until they are straight. Clear aligns are incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists and is currently the top alternative to traditional braces.

Clear aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over your teeth. The nearly invisible trays are usually switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series in order to keep the teeth moving in the direction we want them to. Aligners should be worn 20-22 hours per day during the whole course of treatment. The clear aligner system can only work if these recommended guidelines are followed exactly! If you don't wear the aligners as directed can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.

Clear aligners are at it's best when used to treat most common orthodontic issues. Clear aligners might not be the best option for complex cases. A free consultation with Elm Tree Orthodontics will be able to determine if you're eligible for clear aligners.
